My Family's Seder Plate

My Jewish Heritage

My father's family was Russian Jew. My mother's family was Protestant. I was raised Jewish and had a Bar Mitvah, the "coming of age" ceremony.

At the top of this page is a sedar plate. It is used in the imporant Jewish holiday of Passover. This is my family's modern sedar plate. My parent's sedar plate is more traditional.

At the bottom of this page is a photo of Palestinian children in Jenin. When I was growing up I was told that most Palestinians and Arabs hate Jews. Palestinian children are often taught the opposite.

When I was a teenager, I learned about the sad condition of the Palestinian people, crowded into refugee camps in grinding poverty and came to the conclusion that racism is one of the causes of this situation. This had a big effect on my religious feelings that I'm still working out today. I also now know that many Jews in the world work towards peace and justice for all the people of the Middle East.
